May 17: Maintaining a Positive Attitude

By A Web Design

Positive AttitudeSome people tend to naturally have a more positive outlook on life, while others tend to focus on the negative, and all of us experience moments where we may feel a bit down. People who have a more positive attitude tend to be healthier, live longer and have stronger personal relationships while those with negative attitudes have more health issues and difficulty with inter-personal relationships.

To maintain a positive attitude, you must first realize that your mood is a matter of choice and that you have control over your emotions. Though it does not always seem that way, no one or nothing can make you feel angry, sad, or happy without you choosing to react that way. The exception, of course, is for people suffering from clinical depression or other physical disabilities.

If you are healthy, and want to keep up a positive attitude, there are specific steps you can take to improve your mood and take more control over your attitude.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

  1. Accept that the only things you can control are your own actions and responses.
  2. Try using humor to replace anger or negative reactions.
  3. Watch your thoughts.  They dictate how you feel.
  4. Be conscious of your body language, it can affect your mood.
  5. Smile more, even when you are down.
  6. Actively switch any negative thoughts to positive ones
  7. Avoid negative conversations with others.
  8. Never let others hear you complain.
  9. Consciously look for something positive about everyone you meet.
  10. Get plenty of rest and take care of your health.  A strong mind deals with adversity better.

By A Web Design

changeWe all have to deal with change at some point in our lives. Some people seem to thrive in a changing environment while others struggle, or fight against it and even feel victimized by it. Our reluctance to accept change generally stems for a fear of the unknown. We are comfortable in our current surroundings and are unsure of what the change will bring.

As leaders we have to learn how to be champions of change when necessary so that our followers can feel more comfortable when facing the unknown. However, it is not always easy to display that confidence in times of uncertainty. Here are steps to help you better deal with change in your everyday life.

Developing ConsistencySome of us have experienced huge up-and-down swings in our career or performance. Superstars one month, barely surviving the next. We all have good days and bad days, but the truly successful people are able to replicate their actions and consistently perform at a high level. Look at anyone who is considered a respected professional in their field and you will no doubt see someone who regularly delivers results.
